Letters with J.P. Ted, I understand that we are part of the manifest side of reality. All things decay and die. But do all memories of children and parents and loves of life also die? Sure, we're billions of years old, our atoms, all connected somehow, but if there is no cognition of NOW or PAST events to continue in some form, isn't all this enlightenment stuff just wishful thinking or human defense mechanism against death and the finality of it all? Same as a lot of religions are set up to pacify us? Thanks, J.P.
Dear J.P., First of all, I avoid the word "enlightenment" because it's too loaded down with meanings I don't mean. But the awakening of which I am speaking neither promotes wishful thinking, nor bolsters our defense mechanisms against death (or any other reality), nor pacifies one in any sense. This awakening opens you to your whole being - Absolute and Relative. It drops you into an increasingly sobered awareness of both life and death as well as what transcends both. As far as "cognition of NOW or PAST events to continue in some form" - this awakening opens you to a stark exposure to your own cognition of ALL of reality: past, present, and probable future. Did that answer your question? - Ted
Dear Ted, You say that reality can be directly known. I read in "what is enlightenment" magazine a description of what Andrew Cohen felt when he thought he sensed this reality. How every point was interconnected at the same time. etc. Is this feeling of this "reality "the same in some aspect for all people that have experienced it? Have you actually experienced it yourself? If so with what part of your being truly believes this is a genuine feeling a" fact of reality" 50/50 90/10 or 100 percent. being analytical and skeptical . Do you still believe in this reality? or is their just the slightest bit of doubt that it could be all bullshit. If so enough said, if not can a person be actually zeroed in on this reality. is it worth it, is it a big deal to you ? Thanks JP
Dear JP, From my perspective, we are all living filters on the One Reality that is being both Everything and Nothing simultaneously. Each filter is only capable of seeing a very tiny sliver of the great Reality. But most of us "modern" humans are shocked out of our capacity to even fully inhabit our own filter. The process of which I speak awakens you into the beginning of fully inhabiting your own filter. After some years of healing from all our attempts to get out of the existential pain of Being, we finally gain our natural divinely human capacity to own our own unique perspective through this human incarnation. As far as how much we can be sure of what we think we know of Reality, I'd say it's clear that we are designed from the ground up to never be able to know fully what we know and what we don't know. In other words, it's a great Mystery. But we can live in that Mystery with an unshakeable confidence in Being that is not based on what we think we know, but on Knowing that we Are Being Itself. Ted
